I arrive in Montperrin Hospital as a stutterer. As such I am a stranger, not familiar with the language or the laws of the place. I introduce myself in this new place and at the mere opening of my mouth I am already lacking. I lack a verb, words, and what I present myself with is an impossibility, a difficulty in communicating. I decide to be presence anyway, a somewhat crooked presence. After a few words: bonjour je m’appelle Emma je suis italienne et je suis ici pour une résidence artistique, the language becomes less fluent and difficult; stops, repetitions and involuntary prolongations of sounds divert the conversation, whatever it was, from content to form. Arrivo nell’ospedale di Montperrin come balbuziente. Come tale sono estranea, non conosco la lingua né le leggi del luogo. Mi presento in questo posto nuovo e al solo aprir bocca sono già mancante. Manco di verbo, di parole e ciò con cui mi presento è un’impossibilità, una difficoltà nel comunicare. Decido di essere comunque presenza, una presenza un po’ storta. Dopo poche parole: bonjour je m’appelle Emma je suis italienne et je suis ici pour une résidence artistique, il linguaggio diventa meno fluente e difficoltoso; arresti, ripetizioni e prolungamenti involontari di suoni sviano la conversazione, qualunque essa fosse, dal contenuto alla forma.
